Consultation on the draft code of practice on written consultation

We have been seeking views on a draft Code of Practice about the way government carries out written consultations.   Our 12 week consultation ended on 7 July.

It follows-up:

the recommendation in the Sixth Report of the Neill Committee on Standards in Public Life of 'stronger rules' in the form of a Consultation Code; and

an evaluation of the best practice guide, How to conduct written consultations exercises - a guide for central government which we published in the Summer of 1998.

The final version of the Code was published on 27 November 2000. The following relate to the consultation on the Code:

Press release

Draft Code: Message from the Prime Minister
