Ballymena jobcentre is one of the sixteen offices in the eastern region
of the training and employments preparation for work areas.
At our Bridge Street site we constantly focus on the needs of our
customers and are anxious to provide support and assistance to our
jobseekers. We recognise that we must always be aware of the needs of all
our other customers, particularly employers, whose vacancies we handle in
a prompt and professional way.
Quality customer service has been our goal which is monitored closely
in an effort to develop further ongoing improvement where possible.
Basildon and Thurrock NHS Trust – Endoscopy Unit

The endoscopy unit has been progressively expanded to cope with
increasing demands. Some 8,500 procedures a year are carried out.
Examples of the multi-disciplinary approach include the "One
Stop" clinics. These allow greater patient choice and full clinical
assessment in one visit. An on call service is provided for emergencies.
An endoscopy nurse has been trained to perform upper gastrointestinal
endoscopies, having an impact on waiting times.
The unit has received validation from Anglia University to run an ENB
course in gastroenterology. The success of the unit has been recognised
locally by three chief executive awards and nationally be receiving NHS
Beacon Status and a Charter Mark Award.

Approximately 29,300 patients are treated annually at the Countess of
Chester’s Ophthalmic Unit, providing comprehensive care for patients
residing in Cheshire, North Wales and surrounding areas.
The Ophthalmic Unit consists of a ward, out - patient clinics, theatre,
optometery and orthoptic services.
A key feature of our Charter Mark application has been the benefits
gained from working in partnership with our users. An example of this is
the development of a patient/user focus group, which has enabled us to
develop the service from a users perspective. All information and
innovation are now developed and reviewed with the assistance of our
users.

Court Garden Leisure Complex, part of the Higginson Park Trust, is
located in parkland adjacent to the River Thames in Marlow. Managed on
behalf of the Council by Wycombe Leisure Limited, the complex attracted
283,500 visitors during 1999/2000.
Key to the complex’s success is the friendly approach and high level
of service delivered by staff who are knowledgeable and informed about the
needs of users.
An innovative approach has been taken in removing hurdles to
participation with the introduction of:
 | Free public transport; |
 | Talking leaflets in English and Urdu; |
 | Improved disabled access (provision of powered wheelchair and
scooter); |
 | Single sex swimming sessions and |
 | Junior discotheques. |
Hull City Council – East Hull Pools

Situated approximately ¾ mile from the city centre, East Hull pools is
a one hundred year old leisure centre which prides itself on its close
relationships with the customers and is managed by Kingston Leisure a
division of Hull city council.
The facility offers a large pool measuring 25m x 10m, a small poll
measuring 17.5m x 8m, sauna, fitness suite, solarium, conference room and
relaxation area.
We provide sessions for children, adults, families, people with special
needs and ethnic minorities.
Charter Mark helped identify necessary changes in policies and
procedures ensuring improved customer satisfaction.

The Department of Medical Physics and Physiology Measurement is a
small, but very busy department within the Clinical Support Services
Directorate. Nuclear medicine, physiology measurement, ultrasound and
audiology are the four main clinical areas. Each area undertakes
diagnostic investigations for referring clinicians. We are committed to
providing a high quality, sensitive service to patients. Both patients
attending the department and the referring clinicians are surveyed and
their comments used to improve our services. We pride ourselves on putting
patients first and work with clinicians and other areas throughout the
Trust to provide a first class service.

Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust Patient Transport Service

The Trust is an 800 bed hospital on three sites straddling the
Merseyside/South West Lancashire border, the only UK hospital deploying
its own patient transport service.
The service works to unique quality standards:-
 | 95% of patients delivered within the half hour prior to their
appointment. |
 | 95% of patients collected within half an hour of being ready for
home. |
 | 95% of patients spend less than one hour on the vehicle. |
A user group comprising hospital key staff, GP’s, nursing home
owners, community health council, social services, and age concern
monitors the service.

The Beach Lifeguard Service patrols three blue flag beaches within the
district of Waveney, Lowestoft South, Victoria and Southwold. In addition
to the recognised role of the service our outreach programme works within
the community by promoting beach safety in local primary schools and to
other groups.
We have been recognised nationally as a forerunner in beach safety and
have regular contact with the Royal Life Saving Society and Surf Life
Saving Association. We are also represented on the national beach safety
council.
We pride ourselves in providing a high standard of service, recognised
by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

We are extremely proud that, for the second time, our efforts in terms
of service delivery have been independently recognised by the Charter Mark
unit as meeting the standard of excellence required for the Charter Mark
Award.
We see the Charter Mark Award as a continuous improvement tool and not
just a "badge". This approach has helped us maintain and develop
our services since winning the award for the first time in 1996.
Following our recent restructuring exercise, we are confident that we
have the resources and expertise in place to further develop our services
to maintain and build upon our excellent standard of service delivery.
