Annex B
Arrangements for Clearance

How you clear your charter within your organisation is largely a matter for you, although experience suggests that you should involve as many people as practicable, including ministers, at an early stage in the consultation phase. Other public bodies may well be affected by your proposals and they should also be consulted at an appropriate point. Where ministers from other departments have an interest in your charter, their agreement should be obtained before publication. The Cabinet Office is, of course, happy to provide advice and support as necessary.

In the case of particularly significant national charters, the Cabinet Office should be closely involved in their development. In these cases the agreement of Cabinet Office ministers will be required before publication. The Cabinet Office can advise you on whether your charter falls into this group.
