In December 2005 forty-five organisations across England were awarded funding to help implement the Commission’s recommendations. The funding was used to enable organisations to develop strategies to involve young volunteers, as well as sharing existing good practice in engaging groups of young people who don’t traditionally volunteer. Over 290 applications were received for the grants round, demonstrating commitment from a wide range of organisations to implement the Commission's recommendations.

Capacity building organisations announced
A further seven organisations have been awarded funding to
develop a programme of capacity building activities, which
will provide training and support on media and communications,
building local partnerships and consortium bids, raising private
sector finance, outreach and engaging hard-to-reach groups
and designing and developing taster and full time volunteering
programmes.
The seven organisations are: -
1. Business in the Community and Business Community Connections
2. Volunteering England
3. Community Service Volunteers and BTCV
4. UK Youth
5. The Media Trust
