- New CEO appointed to lead Russell Commission charity
Terry Ryall, currently a Divisional Director at the Prince’s
Trust has been appointed as the Chief Executive of the Russell
Commission charity. From April, Terry will work alongside
Ian Russell and incoming Chair, Rod Aldridge. She will also
be working closely with the new Youth Advisory Board and
a new Trustee Board for the charity, which will be made
up of young people and representatives from the commercial
and voluntary sector. The team will be responsible for revolutionising
youth volunteering, inspiring and engaging one million new
young volunteers and helping to turn the Russell Commission
vision into a reality.
The recruitment process for Board members is now reaching
a conclusion, and Ian Russell is expected to announce the
successful candidates soon.
- New Youth Advisory Board appointed to revolutionise
youth volunteering
Twenty young people have been selected to join the new charity’s
Youth Advisory Board. Representing the views of young people
across England, the Youth Advisory Board will advise and
support the Chief Executive, Chair and main Board, helping
to transform the ways that young people get involved in
volunteering. Four Youth Advisory Board members will also
take up positions on the main Board, ensuring that young
people have a key role in the governance of the new charity.
Newly appointed Youth Advisory Board member Nidal Al-Juzi,
(18 yrs) said: "I'm proud to be representing young
people’s views on the Youth Advisory Board and impressed
by the new charity’s commitment to involve us in shaping
the future of youth volunteering. There are thousands of
young people like me who want to share their skills and
talents, and this is a great opportunity to prove that we
can make a difference."
- Russell Commission funding for 06-07
The new Russell Commission charity is planning to launch
in late April / early May 2006, where it will announce its
first funding rounds to create new youth volunteering opportunities
across England. Organisations will be invited to apply for
funding to deliver full-time, part-time and taster volunteering
opportunities for young people aged 16 -25.
In keeping with the step-change proposed in the Russell
Commission report, organisations will be encouraged to involve
young people in the planning, design and delivery of volunteering
opportunities. Organisations will be asked to demonstrate
how they will help young people to identify and accredit
their learning through volunteering, as well as demonstrating
a commitment to quality assurance in all aspects of their
programme.
The charity will also be inviting bids for the first tranche
of Youth Volunteer Development Managers (YVDMs) who will
work with organisations to develop new volunteering opportunities
for young people.
The charity is currently working with an experienced grants
management agency, which will be administering and managing
the grants rounds. Regular updates will be posted on the
Russell Commission website and via our regular e-bulletins.

will be responsible for developing a youth-facing brand
for the new charity. LOVE has worked with a number of different
