- Business pledges £10m to support youth volunteering
Over ten million pounds has been pledged to support a new commitment to youth volunteering. Nineteen organisations now join the seven Founding Partners in supporting the new Russell Commission charity including: GCap Media plc, Edge, The FA Premier League, BT, Emap plc, The Vodafone UK Foundation, HSBC Bank plc, BAA Communities Trust, Absolute Return for Kids (ARK), RWE npower, Channel 4, Diageo, HBOS Foundation, Sainsbury’s, Barclays Bank, Flextech Television, JPMorgan, Jack Petchey Foundation and Norwich Union General Insurance.
- Charity Trustee Board announced
The Trustee Board of the new Russell Commission charity were announced today. Four members of the V20 Youth Advisory Board have been selected to represent young people on the Trustee Board. Philip Udeh, Sarah Ford, Jay Okwera and Sarah Reynolds were elected by their peers, and will help to ensure that young people are at the heart of the new charity’s decision-making processes. Joining them will be Dame Tanni Grey Thompson DBE, Fiona Dawe OBE, Trevor Pears, Larissa Joy, Dr Justin Davis Smith, Manny Amadi MVO, and Oona King. The Board of Trustees will work with Chair Rod Aldridge and CEO Terry Ryall to bring about a step-change in youth volunteering.
- Launch of the new charity
The new charity tasked with implementing the Russell Commission recommendations will be launched on 8th May 2006.
