It's the consultation you’ve all been waiting for... We're giving you a sneak preview of the five contenders for our new name (and its associated branding) and giving away 10 iPod Nanos or PSPs as well! To check out the 'famous five' which have been developed by creative agency LOVE, in partnership with members of the V20 Youth Advisory Board, simply click on the link below and fill in a short questionnaire. If you work with young people, please encourage them to share their views too! Hurry though – the consultation ends on Friday 21st April. - Recruitment of Senior Management Team underway
The new charity has launched a recruitment campaign to appoint three senior managers who will help to lead the new charity. The Director of Fundraising & Communications will promote the charity’s activities and develop strong commercial partnerships, while the Director of Finance & Corporate Services will ensure an effective and efficient infrastructure for the new charity. They will be joined by a Director of Programme Delivery who will be responsible for creating thousands of new volunteering opportunities designed to inspire and engage a new generation of young volunteers. For full details about each role and how to apply, visit the Job Description page
- 8 May - launch of charity and first funding rounds
The launch of the new Russell Commission charity will take place on Monday 8 May 2006. Organisations will also be invited to bid for the first rounds of funding on this date, with grants available for tasters, part-time and full-time volunteering opportunities. Grants will also be available for organisations that are keen to host the first tranche of Youth Volunteer Development Managers who will take the lead in creating new volunteering opportunities for young people across the voluntary, community and public sectors. Criteria for grants are still being finalised, but in keeping with the step-change proposed in the Russell Commission report, organisations will be encouraged to involve young people in the planning, design and delivery of volunteering opportunities. Organisations will be asked to demonstrate how they will help young people to identify and accredit their learning through volunteering, as well as demonstrating a commitment to quality assurance in all aspects of their programme.
- Free capacity building opportunities – places still available!
The Russell Commission charity has launched a free programme of capacity building activities, to help organisations work more effectively with young volunteers. The programme, which will be available across all nine regions of England, includes training and support on designing and developing volunteering programmes, making consortia work, media and communications, accreditation and working effectively with business. This is not just a programme of 1 day events – it also includes a variety of capacity building activities including face to face consultancy, mentoring and phone and email support – each designed to suit the needs of your organisation. There are still places available - to book, visit the Capacity Building Events area of the Russell Commission website. Please promote this programme to colleagues in other organisations who may be interested in these free capacity building opportunities.
