Coordinating Networks

The centre of government uses a number of networks to ensure effective communication with departments on the modernising government agenda. Following is a list of the more significant elements at official level. You can find details of Ministerial Cabinet committees and guidance on working with them at http://www.cabinet-office.gov.uk/index/cabinet.htm

Cabinet Office networks

Permanent Secretaries group - Permanent Secretary Heads of the main departments, who advise the Head of the Home Civil Service on management of the Civil Service.

Civil Service Management Board - Permanent Secretary Heads of the main departments, chaired by the Head of the Home Civil Service: strategic responsibility for corporate management of the Civil Service.

Other networks concerned with Civil Service reform, all co-ordinated by the Civil Service Corporate Management Command include:

Personnel Directors Group (divided into PDG Main and PDG Small) - quarterly meetings of senior officers responsible for human resources in all departments;
Recruitment Network;
Departmental Interchange Managers: a network of people in departments with responsibility for interchange;
EU Awareness Network: covers EU staffing issues across government;
Fast Stream Pay monitoring group;
Internal Communicators Network.

 

Modernising Government Project Board - oversees implementation of the Modernising Government programme. (The different workstreams and projects which form part of Modernising Government also have their own networks to share ideas and take forward action.)

Quality and responsive of public services - interdepartmental networks led by the Modernising Public Services group include:

Consumer Champions Group;
People's Panel Support Group - advises on Panel research and publication of results;
Service Action Team Steering Group - devises and implements measures to deliver Government's commitments on joining up public services. Members from across central government, wider public service, voluntary and private sectors;
Interdepartmental Group on the responsive/quality public services agenda (Service First and Charter issues).

Electronic Service Delivery - Information Age Champions Group
Regulation - network of departmental Regulatory Impact Units.
