Local Authority Stakeholder events
Delivering better regulation: From enforcement to compliance event
On 21 February, the Better Regulation Executive held an event for key
decision-makers from national and local regulators, to explore the new
approach to regulatory compliance, it's contribution to economic
development, and promote strong and prosperous local communities.
The event consisted of four sessions held over the course of the day,
involving 'Regulatory Reform' (including the Hampton Principles for
delivering better regulation), 'New approaches to Regulation',
'Improving the Regulatory Experience', and towards the end of the
day, a series of seminars looking at risk-based approaches to regulation
amongst other topics.
Speakers at the event included: Hilary Armstrong MP (Minister for the
Cabinet Office and Social Exclusion), Philip Hampton (Chairman of
Sainsbury's and author of the 2005 Hampton Report), and Paul Coen
(Chief Executive of the Local Government Association).

Following on from Peter Rogers' letter to Chief Executives on the
7th December on the Review of Local Authority Regulatory Priorities, we
invited Chief Executives and Chief Officers to attend one of these
three stakeholder events that took place around the country.
These events were set up to allow Peter Rogers and the Review team to
hear views on the Review and inform those attending of the
progress made to date, enabling Chief Executives and Chief Officers to
feed into the outcome.
