Audit and inspection
Effective Performance Division is involved in work on audit and inspection aimed at
recognising their importance in encouraging modern and effective forms of service
delivery, including support for innovation and well thought through risk taking.
Audit
We are working with the Public
Audit Forum, following publication of their paper Implications for Audit of the
Modernising Government Agenda, in considering what next steps need to be
taken to promulgate the principles for auditors and auditees to adhere to in responding to
the Modernising Government White
Paper, and to monitor progress in bringing about changes in approach
where this needed.
We are also contributing to the Performance
and Innovation Unit project on Accountability and Incentives.
Inspection
The Best Value Inspectorate Forum
was launched in 1999 as a means of
increasing the effectiveness of inspection on behalf of service users while minimising
demands on inspected bodies.
The Forum is made up of the Heads of Inspectorates involved in the new Best Value
Regime:
OFSTED
Social Services Inspectorate
HM Fire Services
Inspectorate
HM Inspectorate of
Constabulary
Audit Commission
Benefit Fraud
Inspectorate
EPD is represented on the Interdepartmental Group on Inspection and Intervention which
has been set in parallel to the Inspectorate Forum to act as a channel between the Forum
and Government.
