Ministers have committed government departments and agencies to introducing Welsh language schemes under the Welsh Language Act 1993. Many agencies and departments have already done so, and others are in the process of introducing a scheme. The schemes set out how departments and agencies will use Welsh in the delivery of their services to the public in Wales. Web managers are advised that when there is any doubt then legal advice should be sought.
1.10.6.1 Details of the Welsh Language Act
Departments and agencies should apply the principles of their language schemes (or the schemes they are preparing) to their Internet sites. The aim should be that the public has access to information in both English and Welsh in line with the commitments in schemes. This relates to aspects such as presentation, general information and publicity material as well as placing materials produced in hard copy in Welsh or dual-language on the Internet alongside the English content. The Welsh content should be as easy for the public to access as the English content. Examples of how this can be set out can be found on the websites below
