Government in Action’ report, which sets out a series
of recommendations to ensure that Government IT-enabled
projects are well-run.
In order to deliver the e-government
Strategy and improve performance in public sector
IT, the Government needs to address the way it handles
projects.Successful
IT: Modernising Government in Actionwas published
in May 2000.It sets out measures to improve project
delivery and includes 30 recommendations that aim to
ensure that all Government IT projects are as good as
the best.This report was the outcome of a review set
up by the Prime Minister.

Progress Report
In December 2000, the e-Envoy published
a report setting out the progress that had been made
in implementing the 30 recommendations. The progress

The
Office
of Government Commerce has produced a series
of briefings in support of the Successful IT report
(including guidance on Senior Responsible Owners or
SRO’s, Managing Risk, Project Mentoring, the Business
Case, the Project Profile Model or PPM & the Gateway

Transfer of responsibility for Successful
IT
The Prime Minister announced on 24th April 2001 that
the responsibility for driving forward recommendations
in the "Successful IT: Modernising Government in
Action" report will be transferred to the Office
of Government Commerce (OGC), an office of the Treasury.
