eGovernment security programme
The Prime Minister has set a clear
target for making all government services to citizens and
businesses available electronically.
The Office of the e-Envoy is
committed to ensuring services are delivered in ways that
meet the needs of citizens and businesses, enabling them to
interact securely in places and at times that are convenient
to them.
We recognise that engendering
trust and confidence is vital to increase the uptake of e-government
services. We therefore work with various partners in other
government departments and in the private sector to develop
security policy that will allow citizens and businesses to
use the right level of security and authentication and ensure
the integrity of IT systems.
There are four principles that
are essential for safe electronic transactions.
- Confidentiality: Keeping
information private.
- Integrity: Ensuring information
has not been changed or manipulated.
- Non-Repudiation: The individual
who undertook the transaction cannot subsequently deny it.
- Authentication: Confirming
the identity of the individual who undertook the transaction.
The OeE is continually developing
policy to met these stringent requirements for e-Government
and creating partnerships between government and industry
to ensure the promotion and implementation of secure trust
electronic services in the UK.
Our security frameworks use best
practice from both the private and public sectors, to provide
guidance that is useful and practical.
