The Government welcomed feedback from the public on its draft legislative programme - the "Have your say" [External website] facility on the Cabinet Office website was used but is now closed. A list of responses is available.
In publishing its draft legislative programme the Government has opened up a previously closed process. Of course, the Government retains the right to decide the final shape of the programme and the content of the individual bills that it will present to Parliament. However, setting out its legislative priorities will aid good government and strengthen the engagement between Government, Parliament and the public.
In most cases, government departments will have conducted extensive consultation around each bill they have in the draft programme. Departments will decide how best to do this, but it is likely to include a web-based consultation and discussions with the principal organisations working in that area.
